The Layders-Smiling with the Sun

Serengti in the house...

Last Jam this Sunday

This is the last session... the banger... the finale... What ever you want to call it, but its going to be bigger than the rest. This session is all about giving back the love that we got for the whole year. the line up is compromised by what we deem to be the finds of the year 2010 to have graced our stage.

On the decks Big Daddy Mdoo makes a welcome back to give us some beautiful laid back nu jazz/downtempo beats that most peop...le don't know him for. Trevor the Japanese is a DJ that is steadily making a name for himself in the alternative scene and will be gracing our decks. he comes under huge recommendation from the JunkOnMe crew.

Motlatsi is a leader and a true artist that is making a name for himself through his talent. Most people have seen him act yet don't know that he can sing and move a crowd. That is not a act at all. he will coming with a full band to the session to give us his take on soul music with underlying African rhythms.

Serengeti is a all three female band hailing from the icy shores of Sweden. They will be giving us their take on Reggae/dancehall. They will be providing a sound that we have missed at the session since the lose of our brother Stan.

khronos!

FIT-SENIOR YEAR: dissapointing.
I think we deserve more time for development and research... as I am supposed to be working on my SENIOR THESIS.

Something that should represent who I am as a designer (thus far) and the things that I believe in, the message I want to convey (perhaps could be called an artist's statement) and that reflects the knowledge acquired in the past years.

however, we are rushed and asked to make a "HOLLIDAY" collection in 2 weeks, rendered, flats, ecc... who can do research and development in such short time and then call their collection " a well thought" one...
please... we dont need anymore shallow design.

sorry for the venting, but someone needs to do it. I i need to excuse myself for the following:

my holliday /knitwear collection- another silly excercise. I really ran by it... no thoughts- just DO!

Whiskey Festival give ticket give away

Over the past few weeks, ancient Mayans have been appearing in nightclubs, on streets, on beaches and in shopping malls all over the country. Mayan sightings have been reported as far afield as Maponya Mall in Soweto to Durban Beach and Long Street in Cape Town, leaving countless hundreds of people asking “What’s with all the Mayans?“ After weeks of speculation, it was revealed that the Mayans were invited to the country by J&B as part of the J&B Start A Party Under The Mayan Sun competition – visit the J&B South Africa Facebook page to find out more.

The Mayans have been checking out the party starting spirit in South Africa, and will be making their way to the FNB Whiskey Live Festival before heading back to Mexico so visit the J&B stand and say farewell!

OA Week Competition winner: Misha Jepson, Glyndŵr University

We are pleased to announce Misha from Glyndŵr University as our OA Competition winner!!

Misha’s engagement story described the use of advocacy to both gain the attention of an institution’s senior management team and to effectively put across the benefits of a repository to an institution. The story showed the importance of the ‘Elevator Pitch’ advocacy technique in grabbing opportunities where you can to get your case heard. It also showed how aligning the use of the repository with the institution’s strategic aims can embed the system within an institution’s structure.

A copy of Misha's winning story is available here.

RAE data available for download: JISC MERIT project

A new resource which may be of interest to those who are looking to use their institutions’ RAE data to populate their repository and/ or other publication management systems.

The JISC MERIT project has just launched its RAE submissions database which contains data on every UK institutions’ RAE submission.

The database offers faceted searching on the citation data held by: institution; Unit of Assessment; output type; author. The results of any combination of these searches can then be exported and saved to Excel files.

From what I can see the database only holds citation data. It does not seem to offer full-text, links out and/or DOI look ups.
