TSJS 03 April 2011

The Thesis Social Jam Sessions keep growing strong and are not about to stop anytime soon. The line up keeps growing better and more diverse. We will keep introducing acts to the youth of Soweto and Johannesburg at large.

This instalment is filled with diversity thanks to the DJ's and Live acts. Ill skills will be gracing the TSJS stage for the first time after their return from London where they were doing their 24hr mixtape ...project. This dynamic duo of Uno July and Jimmy Flexx will turn the stage into their home and make the crowd their guests. The Layders are back to showcase what they have for the masses from their forthcoming album on Soulcandi records. It must go into saying that this is the platform that got them to be signed and it’s good to have them grace us with their grown sound.

DJ Okapi's sound is that of African vibes and bubble gum all mixed with Vinyl. He is slowly making a name for himself in the Johannesburg scene and has already played at Dirty Secret and the 70 Juta opening. His selection is sure to school people and get them all nostalgic. Zakes is the hip hop/downtempo DJ that has been in the scene from long. Those that know him will tell you that he was there when DJ Mbuso was still starting out. He will be bringing along his “A” game for the TSJS crowd. Paledi and Kid Fonque don't need that much introduction. Both their selections are eclectic and will keep the crowd happy.

Comedy will be provided by Mpho "Popps" the second season runner up of so you think you funny. This young lad has been blowing up the scene... ask David Kau. As the one of few comedians to get a standing ovation at the Black Only comedy, we are proud to have him grace our stage. Opening for him will be Donovan.

Dissertation Writing Tips

Undergraduate dissertations are usually 6000-10000 words and post-graduate dissertations are usually 15000-20000 words long project. So naturally, it is one of the longest and difficult piece of work that student would attempt. There are some very important points that student should always keep in mind while writing their dissertation.

For dissertation writing help introduction of your dissertation, first of all an important tip is that word count of this chapter should be around 10% of the total word count. Introduction chapter includes an introduction about the research topic, aims and objectives, hypothesis, steps to solve research, short intro to dissertation research methodology. It is very important that your research aims and objectives are not too broad and should be achievable.

Literature review is the next chapter and basically this is a review of what is already known or have been researched upon in your chosen subject areas. You should thoroughly review academic journals and databases like Emerald, Business Source Complete, ProQuest, Lexis Nexis, and standard books on the subjects and make notes for the same. It is very important that you correctly refer to all the sources you collect information from. Since you could be referring to probably more than 100 sources, it is important that you properly refer and compile your notes. Literature review is about 25% of the word count.

In your literature review, you should try to find out what are the main subject themes in literature for your chosen subject areas, you should do an analysis how these themes relate to your chosen subject area of research, who are the main authors and research scholars in your field and what are their main arguments, what are the gaps in the arguments, what are the relevant conceptual frameworks that can be used in your research, what research methodology have been primarily used in this subject areas and what are the key lessons for you from the literature review.

Third chapter of dissertation is research methodology that is basically about what research methods you are going to follow. For this it is important, first of all that you have good understanding of general research methods and research approaches. It is imperative that you understand about basic terminologies like positivism and Interpretivism, qualitative and quantitative research, primary and secondary research, exploratory, causal and descriptive methods of research etc.

Your research methodology should be suitable and appropriate according your research objectives and research question. One of the most important aspects is that how you would get data to come to conclusions about your research objectives and research question.

Chapter four is about findings and analysis. You may require to present your data in the first part of this chapter. You should present data in this chapter or in an appendix as suitable based on your research topic in consultation with your supervisor. After this, you should do a through analysis of your finding and make sure these findings are linked with your research objectives. If you have framed a hypothesis of your research, you would have to test your hypothesis in this section of your dissertation and have to accept or reject it.

Final chapter is usually conclusion and recommendations. This should include a summary of the main findings in a systemic pointed way and conclusions and limitations and scope of further research.

We hope these tips would be useful for you in preparing your dissertation and if you need more  dissertation help  please visit our site www.dissertationhelpservice.com or write to us on info@dissertationhelpservice.com

Research Methodology: Qualitative and Quantitative Research

Qualitative and Quantitative research approaches are very important to understand for anyone working for his/her dissertation. Qualitative research approach basically includes a range of interpretive research techniques, mostly used for naturally occurring phenomena’s in social research for developing theories. While quantitative research approach basically attempts to exactly measure phenomena under study in quantified form and helps in answering questions like how much, how often, how many, when, and who. Qualitative research is very useful for theory building and quantitative research approach is very useful in testing theories.
Research involvement is very high in qualitative research in comparison to quantitative research so there is quite of high risk of research bias and subjectivness of researcher in the qualitative approach.  Researcher is a participant or catalyst in the qualitative research approach. However, in quantitative approach, there is very limited involvement of researcher and involvement is controlled to prevent any bias.

Researcher may only know roughly in advance what are his/her research objectives while in quantitative approach research has clarity about his/her research objectives. Sample size is small in qualitative research while in quantitative research, sample size is quite large. Sample design is mainly nonprobability in qualitative research while in quantitative research it is probability based. Data in the qualitative approach is very verbal in words or pictures form while in quantitative research data is mainly in form of numbers.  In qualitative approach, researcher is one of the key data collection tool while in quantitative research, data is mainly collected through questionnaires/surveys. In qualitative approach, data is collected mainly through case studies, interviews, observations etc.

Understanding of qualitative and quantitative approach is very important for deciding what research methodology you would follow for your dissertation. If you need any further help with your dissertation research methodology, please visit our website www.dissertationhelpservice.com or email us to info@dissertationhelpservice.com

How to Write a Good Dissertation

This blog by dissertationhelpservice.com would help students in learning all aspects of working on a Dissertation.  Dissertation is a long research project that requires a combination of various knowledge and skills. Most important is to understand having a sound knowledge of research methods. Once you have good understanding of the subject of research methodology, you can complete your dissertation in an effective manner.

Once a general understanding of research and research methodology is developed, next important task is to decide on dissertation topic. There are several aspects that you need to consider while selecting a dissertation topic. Most important task is that you should select an area that is relevant to your studies, your research interest and your future profession. An area could be human resource management, corporate finance, marketing or arts. Similarly, if you are aiming to get a job in IT Consultancy than probably you can think of ICT as an area to do your research in.
After a broad area is selected, you should select a specific area in that subject. For example, you can select performance management in human resource management or marketing positioning in marketing management.  Once you have selected a specific area of research, you should try to understand what the current research areas are in your chosen subject. Based on the scope of your research, you should select a research question and decide your research objectives.

Your research objectives and questions shall be neither too broad nor too specific. Your objectives shall be just right depending on the level of research and time and resources you have for your research. Following this approach, you should zero down on your research objectives and research question.

Your next step should be writing a research proposal. In this proposal, you should include your research topic, research questions, research objectives, brief literature review and key terminologies, initial assessment of research methodology, project plan and Gantt chart, research limitations. Once you make your research proposal, you should get it approved from your supervisor or any other necessary person.

Once your research proposal is approved, you should start working on your dissertation. Two important aspects of managing your dissertation project is that thoroughly reviewing literature and deciding upon right research methodology. Once these two aspects of your dissertation have been covered, you should start with collecting data. Data collected should be relevant and valid. After data has been collected, data has to be analysed and interpreted as required. Finally, you need to write a detailed report based on your university or employer’s requirements. Your findings and conclusion is also one of the most important segments. You should be very careful in making conclusions that are supported by your findings.

The above write up gives you a basic idea about how to go about writing a dissertation and managing your research project. We would write further posts to help you. If you have any specific queries, please visit our website www.dissertationhelpservice.com or write to us on info@dissertationhelpservice.com for dissertation help service.
