Human Rights day

The Sharpeville massacre occurred today, 21 march 1960, in Sharpeville. Demonstrations were happening to eliminate the whole thing of walking around with a passport. South African government then enforced that on native black people. The police opened fire on the crowd of protesters: killing 69 people. It was a tragic moment of history in South Africa. Basic human rights issue, that taunts us even today.

That’s why we have our holiday: to commemorate the struggle; the fight & death for equality. So STAY UP my people!

The KNITTING PARTY

A few weeks ago my dearest friend Rosa Ng from QualityControl hosted a Sunday KNITTING PARTY!

I had never been to an event like this, and didn't really know what to expect. Nonetheless, I was really looking forward to see Rosa and some other former classmates; and to catch up while knitting or teaching others how to knit!

It was a total success! There was tea, pastries of all kinds, churros, munchies,  and chocolate. Plus, we had nice music as a background to our endless and boisterous chatter. We had so much to update each other about.
such a beautiful tea-set! our guilty pleasures!
All of us are either out of school (graduated from FIT last May) or on the last semester. Its incredible how much things have changed since we've stopped frequenting the classrooms on 27th street. We spoke about first jobs, corporate vs. non-corporate companies, our study-abroad experiences, travels, design competitions, the NYC Garment Center, career ambitions, and of course, our love for fashion, craft and KNITTING.

There were 3+ conversations happening simultaneously and each story was interrupted by an “okay now, I’m going to show you how to purl”, a  “wow, what’s that super pretty yarn?” a “wait, can you show me that again?”, "how to wind a ball of yarn", or “ What’s circular knitting all about?”…

All I can say is that it was the most fun I’ve had in a while! There is nothing like sharing your knowledge, ideas and passion for craft while catching up with your friends (and making new friends) over delicious banana/pecan-banana-bread-yuminess and warm tea on a cold winter Sunday!

Maybe we are nerds, but I know we all loved it! This should become a regular thing!
Enjoy the nice pics x Rosa Ng!

snacks on the table, yarn in our hands... this is how it started!

Nicole learning how to knit! She was determined to knit an entire sweater before she left the party...
I was fixing one of my CALAFURIA pieces w handspun scrap yarn
oh the laughs!
The following Sunday,  I caught up with Nicole. She told me she's hooked with this knitting thing and that she bought "professional needles" because "a professional needs professional tools"

WE LOVE YOU NIC and we also LOVE KNITTING!!

Apologies

We always have fun at the Thesis Social Jams, thank you all for being there since inception. Is Thesis a registered entity? Yes, Thesis Social jams is a close corporation, Thesis Clothing a close corporation & yes, so is Thesis cafĂ©. yesterday we were launch Thesis Lifestyle. Yes, it is a lifestyle. And maybe we must introduce Thesis disaster management. Maybe that team will help us rehearse on how to deal with the unforeseen. Every first Sunday of the month we host our event, The Social jams. They have been successful looking at the history & of course this success comes with a lot of learning in it. We hit snags at times, we unfortunately cannot control certain circumstances that includes (rain, national nutrition & other unforeseen natural disasters) We always plan to have fun & sometimes forget that things do occur, yesterday we opted more for SAFETY vs. FUN obviously SAFETY comes first, it would appear as though the law enforcement officers were sent by 1(ONE) community member who obviously does not share the same sentiments as you our loyal family as well as the founders. Yesterday we were all left numb, all that kept running in our minds was PEACE,PEACE,PEACE,LOVE & HAPPINESS. All we know is, at the jams everything is about the experience, music, life & people (no violence or bad behaviour, no irresponsible characters etc). So does the law have a reason against a lifestyle, to an extent where all must be halted? We all know the answer. Maybe its jealousy. No but we are positive people & we will keep on doing the right things or doing things right This year started off not so HIGH, you will recall that in January we had to stop due to rain, you continued to support us through to February which was successful ( thank you). We wish to have your valuable input for future events. How do we make it up to our loyal family? We have no idea, all we know is WE need you, we need your support. We cannot promise that this family will not go through rough times in future. It’s a happy family, we are one, that’s how we all learn & that ultimately makes us a strong unit/force. We looking forward to our APRIL offering, we will endeavour to upload a mix from one of our guest(DJ) on our FB page. We are Thesis, Next one will be bigger & better, we will forever be indebted to you. We owe you FUN, we owe you a lifestyle, we owe you Thesis(you are Thesis)

Chat in the box

On Tuesday I was chatting on whatss app to some of the djs that are going to play on Sunday. I just wanted to give them their schedules for the Jam & I ended up interviewing them; on the spot. It was quite fun as some of them ended up chatting away. I’ll post our chats one by one, because I was chatting to them all at the same time.

Point here is progress. Communication has advanced to a level that “its not hard to find anyone”. Long gone are those days when smoke & light as form of communication. These days communication has mobility. It has transcended with time & it has brought people more closer in reaching each other. Social networking has taken the social realm to the next level. We are living tomorrow today. And that’s change! Isn’t it great?
