Research Strategy

Research strategy is a methodology that helps the researcher to investigate the research issue. According to Saunders (2003), research strategy is a general plan that helps researcher in answering the research questions in a systematic way. An effective research strategy contains the clear objectives, research questions, data collection resources and various constraints that affects the research in different ways such as access limitations, time limitations, location and money limitations, ethical issue constraints etc. An effective research strategy helps the researcher to define that why researcher employing a particular research strategy to conduct the research study in an effective manner. Research strategy is also helpful for the researcher to use specific data collection methods to support the arguments (Saunders 2003).

In an effective research strategy, researcher collects the background information and analyzes the data to reach a specific conclusion. Some important research strategy includes the analysis of literature review, case study analysis, interview, observation, experiments, survey etc. In order to accomplish the research aims and objectives, the researcher used survey and analysis of academic articles strategies. Survey strategy helps the researcher to collect qualitative data and information (Flick 2009). With the help of survey strategy, researcher is able to collect general views of people that are related to the topic of role of marketing strategies to development of UK tourism industry.

Researcher also uses academic journal articles analysis in order to achieve research aims and objectives. It helps researcher to collect relevant information and data that is related to the research issues. Both of these research strategies are helpful for the researcher to collect the valid and reliable data and information to achieve research aims and objectives (Saunders 2003).

5 Roses

before

after

The 5 roses bowl in Mofolo Soweto. One of biggest landmarks of Soweto. From the longest time: it has been the stage of many acclaimed brands & artists in SA. From our parents seeing the old jazz clubs, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Ray Phiri to us seeing Femi Kuti, Simphiwe Dana, Thandiswa Mazwai, Black Jacks & the list goes on! It was burned down last night & nobody is clueless why & who did such a thing. Many claim a score was settled or somebody was in trouble. Whatever the case was: It was a really cool spot & an injustice was thrown upon the citizens of Soweto. Young & old: it was part of our heritage in the hood! Hopefully, whoever will be given the project to rebuild it must make it as iconic to our kids as it was to our parents & us!!!!

Love & respect!

SCRAP FABRIC yarn: Plying A More Fashionable Fiber Frontier

HELLO THERE, UPDATE UPDATE!!!
I'm back to being cybernetically connected. After spending two days knitting intensely (for The Green Fashion Competition and Auralis), here are some visuals from behind the scenes!

Also, this week we were featured in an amazing article written for ECO SALON by Abigail Doan. Abigail is an incredible writer/textile artist/master createur who I've had the pleasure to connect/interact with a lot lately. Its super gratifying to see she truly understands/appreciates my work!
Please check it out: Plying A More Fashionable Fiber Frontier

Abigail Writes:

"Similarly, I admire how designer Zaida Adriana Goveo Balmaseda is currently scouring the floors of designer work rooms and studios for scraps of textiles that are being hand spun into knitted runway creations for The Green Fashion Competition at Amsterdam Fashion Week in late January."

Zaida shared some of the following sentiments with us regarding her resourceful process and intention:
“Through my work I intend to encourage and engage people to use craft for solutions, and for my current project we are recycling studio textile waste. I discovered the spinning process while researching recycled yarns, and given that I was not really satisfied with my finds, I wanted to work with a fiber that I had complete control over and that would positively impact my surroundings, including the people I know.
Spinning yarn can be done with a very simple tool, and many people can participate in the transformation of this raw material. In just one week I taught my grandparents, brother, sister, and mother how to spin. We are creating and sharing stories together, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see everyone cooperating and enthusiastically wanting to learn a new skill. Each skein is unique, just like its spinner and the runway garments that we are knitting as well.”

TSJS 2012

We are bringing it on the table again! Its a fresh one for the year. Bring the noise & your friends for the freshest sounds Soweto has ever put out. Ladies & gentlemen; i present: TSJS 2012... Hello!!!!

TGFC updates

I've been  knitting "hand spun scraps" like a maniac for the past few days.
Mom has been sewing and quilting non stop and the apartment has been turned into a "small" 2-woman factory!
-there is so much to do still, but we're making steady progress-

Mom finished quilting 2 of the pieces--> so ONLY one more piece needs to be quilted now.
things are looking good!

Yesterday we had two wonderful helpers who worked some of their magic around here:

Rosa Ng from Quality Control
Long time friend super fast knitter!
and
Master Artist and long time friend, this one is pretty good at just about everything. He is helping us with a -hands at work- short video which will document the process of creation of the pieces for CALAFURIA (collection) and the techniques behind it.

I am so thankful to spend these super long workdays IN GREAT company, and for the support and help of everyone around me.

now off to knitting
the "studio" is dedicating its day to the knitwear collaboration w Auralis  from Auralistudo

happy knitting to you all!

Research Philosophies

Research Philosophies are as Follows:

Positivism Philosophy: Positivism philosophy is based upon the highly structured methodology to enable generalization and quantifiable observations and evaluate the result with the help of statistical methods. Positivism philosophy is commonly used in natural science and it is a critical and objective base method. It is an approach that includes the various philosophy of natural science such as philosophy of unchanging, universal law and the view of everything that occurs in the nature (Sundars 2003).

With the help of positivism philosophy, researcher can collect all the facts and figures that are associated with the research issue through general sources. According to Sundars (2003), in this research philosophy the role of researcher is very important for the study. He stated that in positivism philosophy the researcher plays role of an objective analyst to evaluate the collected data and produces an appropriate result in order to achieve research aims and objectives.

Interpretive Philosophy: The interpretive philosophy believes that the social world of management and business is too complex as to be formulated in theories and laws such as in the natural science. Interpretive philosophy represents the critical thinking about positivism philosophy. According to this philosophy, there are many truths and meaning of a simple fact and these are suitable for every situation and for every research problem (Johnson and Christensen 2010).

This research philosophy plays an important role in order to produce end result from the collected data. In this research philosophy, the researcher does not only interact with environment but also seek to make sense of it through their interpretation of events and the meaning that they draw from these. In this research philosophy, there are several factors such as individual have different living standards, difference in social and cultural environment, personality and family groups etc. affects the nature of individual (Saunders 2003).

Realism Philosophy: Realism philosophy is also an important philosophy that is based on the interdependency of human values and beliefs. This research philosophy focuses on the beliefs that really exist in the environment. This research philosophy believes in the existence of external and objective reality that influences people’s social interpretations and behavior. It also believes that the human are not the objects for the study in the style of natural science. This research philosophy also define that how individual react towards a real world situation (Johnson and Christensen 2010).
